A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
Just kidding! It was actually in a land far away—Chile, to be exact—where my creative journey began many years ago.
I’ve always been drawn to cartoons, especially the classics, as well as old movies and everything vintage. There’s something timeless about that style, and I love mixing it with modern technologies to create something fresh yet nostalgic. My career started many years ago in graphic design and illustration, bouncing between web design, e-learning, branding and video games. But my true passion has always been video games and stories—something I’ve loved since I was a kid.
Now I am living in the Netherlands and my dream has always been to build my own universes and bring them to life. Not just as quirky, animated cartoon, but as something you can hold in your memories for the rest of your life
What is Looney Tales?
LooneyTales is an ongoing project where I draw from my own childhood memories and personal experiences to create a narrative-driven video game. The project combines inspiration from early cartoon styles, such as rubber hose animation, with contemporary techniques and digital tools. My intention is to create an experience that is both playful and educational, where learning and entertainment coexist.
The project takes place in a fantasy universe composed of three main worlds: Candyland, Ghost Realm, and Jazz City. The story follows Pansweet, a chubby, sweet, and courageous little pig, who explores these environments, encountering new characters, enemies, and landscapes while discovering information about each world.
Each environment is designed with both narrative and educational elements. For example, the first level, Candyland Tulip Meadows, is inspired by Dutch flora and fauna, presented in a humorous and stylized way through animated flowers, windmills, dutch landscape and candy-based creatures. Throughout the experience, secondary characters such as Swingtails provide contextual information about the environment, as well as guidance to support the player’s progression.
The narrative also includes a central antagonist, Lil’Flo, who acts as a disruptive force within the story. Through misleading guidance, the creation of obstacles, and the introduction of enemies, Lil’Flo constantly challenges Pansweet’s ability to adapt and move forward. This dynamic introduces tension and reinforces the theme of navigating unfamiliar environments.
A central theme of the project is adaptation. The main characters are outsiders in these worlds, learning to navigate and understand unfamiliar environments. This reflects my own experience of living abroad and adapting to a new culture. Through this project, I explore how personal experiences, travel, food, and cultural encounters can be translated into visual storytelling and interactive environments.
LooneyTales allows me to combine my long-standing interest in video games and animation with my desire to create meaningful and engaging experiences. It is both a creative exploration and a personal narrative, developed through world-building, character design, and visual storytelling.
