LooneyTales is an ongoing project where I draw from my own childhood memories and personal experiences to create a narrative-driven video game. The project combines inspiration from early animation styles, such as rubber hose animation, with contemporary techniques and digital tools. My intention is to create an experience that is both playful and educational, where learning and entertainment coexist.
The project takes place across different locations inspired by real-world environments, reinterpreted through Pansweet’s emotional perspective and imagination. Rather than representing reality directly, each world becomes an exaggerated adaptation of how Pansweet wishes to perceive it — transforming unfamiliar or intimidating places into surreal fantasy environments such as candy kingdoms, retro-inspired cities, or playful ghost realms.
The story follows Pansweet, a chubby, sweet, and courageous little pig, who explores these unusual worlds while encountering new characters, enemies, and unfamiliar landscapes.
Among the central characters is Swingtails, a clever and streetwise rat who acts as both a guide and companion throughout parts of the journey. In contrast to Pansweet’s innocence and idealism, Swingtails is more adaptable and cautious, helping the protagonist navigate strange environments and understand the hidden rules of each world.
Each environment is designed with both narrative and educational elements. For example, the first level, Candyland Tulip Meadows, is inspired by Dutch flora and fauna, presented in a humorous and stylized way through animated tulips and candy-based creatures. Throughout the experience, characters such as Swingtails provide contextual information about the environment, as well as guidance to support the player’s progression.
The narrative also includes a central antagonist, Lil’Claws, who acts as a disruptive force within the story. Through misleading guidance, the creation of obstacles, and the introduction of enemies, Lil’Claws constantly challenges Pansweet’s ability to adapt and move forward. This dynamic introduces tension and reinforces the theme of navigating unfamiliar environments.
A central theme of the project is adaptation. The main characters are outsiders in these worlds, learning to navigate and understand unfamiliar environments. This reflects my own experience of living abroad and adapting to a new culture. Through this project, I explore how personal experiences, travel, food, and cultural encounters can be translated into visual storytelling and interactive environments.
LooneyTales allows me to combine my long-standing interest in video games and animation with my desire to create meaningful and engaging experiences. It is both a creative exploration and a personal narrative, developed through world-building, character design, and visual storytelling.
